The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Based on Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel and including songs from the Disney animated film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame tells the tale of Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer of the Notre Dame Cathedral, and his longing to experience the outside world. When Quasimodo escapes for one day, he encounters a beautiful Romani woman, Esmeralda, who also enthralls the devious archdeacon Claude Frollo and his handsome captain of the guard, Phoebus. As the three men vie for Esmeralda’s attention, the situation escalates until it envelops all of Paris.
Showcasing themes such as faith, discrimination, and sacrifice, The Hunchback of Notre Dame explores the power of love and acceptance while asking the question, “What makes a monster and what makes a man?”
Performances of The Hunchback of Notre Dame will be Thursday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 24 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, June 25 at 2:00 p.m. All performances will be at the Decorah High School Auditorium, 100 Claiborne Avenue, Decorah, IA.
