NMP announces audition call for Mamma Mia!
Spring is here, and summer will be just around the corner. What could be better than to imagine being on a Greek island, surrounded by clear blue water and catchy songs?
New Minowa Players will hold auditions for the hit musical Mamma Mia! on April 6 and 7 at the NMP building at 906 S. Mill Street in Decorah. Auditions will start at 1 p.m. on both days and are expected to continue for several hours. Everyone auditioning should arrive at 1 p.m. to learn choreography.
The musical is comprised of some of ABBA’s many timeless hits, including Dancing Queen, Thank You for the Music, Voulez Vous, and, of course, Mamma Mia. It tells the hilarious story of a young woman’s search to learn the identity of her birth father. On the eve of her wedding, she brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they visited 20 years earlier. The story unfolds from there with many revelations and complications. Mamma Mia! is an enchanting tale of love, laughter, and friendship, full of unforgettable songs, colorful costumes, and fast-paced dance numbers.
Those auditioning for a named character role will present a monologue of 60-90 seconds and one verse and a chorus from a song. They can either sing a capella or bring their own music since an accompanist will not be available for auditions. Those auditioning for a chorus role do not need to prepare a monologue and song. They will learn part of a song and some choreography. Everyone auditioning for the show should come dressed for comfort and movement. Finally, all those auditioning need to bring a list of personal conflicts between May 1 and June 30.
Mamma Mia! will be presented at the Decorah High School auditorium on June 27-30. Rehearsals will start on May 1.
Mamma Mia is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). Local sponsors of the show include Decorah Bank and Trust, Family Table Restaurant, Gallery of Tops, Iroc Web Design Services, Modish, Pizza Ranch, RocketDog Books, Rick and Sheryl Scheffert, and Singing Hammers Construction.
