  • State Fair                                                                                                                                         In June the New Minowa Players will present their 35th Summer Musical – Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s “State Fair”. The show will be presented June 25-27 in the Decorah High School Auditorium with 7:30pm performances on June 25 & 26 and a 2:00 pm matinee on June 27.                                                    STATE FAIR started out as a book by Iowan Phil Strong which was released as a non-musical movie starring Will Rogers. When it was decided to make the story into a musical, Rodgers and Hammerstein were asked to write it. This is the only show they wrote directly for the screen. The movie had its world premier in Des Moines on August 24, 1945. Later, it was redone to critical acclaim as a stage musical

  • Set in 1945, against the colorful backdrop of a more nostalgic American heartland tradition, STATE FAIR travels with the Frake family as they leave behind the routine of the farm for three days of adventure at the annual Iowa State Fair. Mom and Pop have their hearts set on blue ribbons; Mom for her pickles and mincemeat, Pop for his hog “Blue Boy”. Their daughter, Margie, and son, Wayne, are looking for something more personal – romance. The show is highlighted by some classic Rogers & Hammerstein tunes like “It Might As Well Be Spring”, “That’s For Me”, and “It’s A Grand Night for Singing”.

    The cast is headed by Dean Beckman, Cindy Schissel, Sarah Brandt, Steve Larson, Greg Tjossem, and Elea Uhl. Other cast members include: Loma Carlson, Anna Crenshaw, Dave Greedy, Allison Groux, Dave Hegg, Elaine Hegg, Guy Johnson, Alex Kane, Aaron Kvale, Ann Kvale, Gara Lonning, Gavin Markee, Elise Miller, Emily Miller, Mikaila Murry, Robert Needham, Rick Scheffert, Randy Schissel, Alison Schwartzhoff, Kathy Schwarthoff, Adrian Strand, Larry Suntken, Ali Voigt, Will Yahr, Clara Yee, Katelyn Yee.

     

    Tickets for the June 25, 26 & 27 performances will go on sale June 16 at the NMP Building, 906 S. Mill. Box Office Hours will be 3-6pm Monday through Fridays. Ticket prices are $10 for Adults and $5 for Children (12 and under).
