“Hand spring cleaning! And hand whitewashing! Oh the light! The air! The freedom,” Mole shouts, as he reaches the River Bank for the first time.
So begin the adventures in Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind in the Willows, to be presented January 21-24 by New Minowa Players. Mole (Jason Hettinger) explores the River Bank with his new friend Rat (Ruth Bruce), and is soon introduced to Toad of Toad Hall (Rick Scheffert). Toad has already left his love of boating to embrace the joys of caravanning. He convinces his friends to caravan across England, but along the way becomes enamored of motor cars. And motor cars land him in jail. Finally escaping with the help of the Gaoler’s Daughter (Olga Rinco), Toad journeys through the Wide World, arriving at Badger’s (Jerry Bruce) house only to find the weasels (Chuck Humphrey-Klimesh and Gavin Markee) have taken over Toad Hall. In the end the friends work together to reclaim Toad Hall, and even the weasels join in the final celebration.
