Come see the New Minowa Players Young People's Production of "The Pirates of Penzance" this August! This classic Gilbert and Sullivan musical comedy is directed by Luther student and NMP member, Joseph Carey, and will be playing August 13th - 15th at 7PM and August 15th - 16th at 2PM. Shows will be held at the New Minowa Players Theater (906 South Mill St.) in beautiful Decorah. Tickets for the production will be available at the Oneota Community Co-op and at Bookends and Beans.

The "Pirates of Penzance" is the hilarious story of Frederic (played by Ethan Bjelland), a man accidentally apprenticed by his nursemaid, Ruth (Sarah Brandt), to the Pirate King (Jason Hettinger), his lieutenant, Samuel, and their rollicking band of pirates. Eventually, Frederic encounters and falls in love with the beautiful Mabel (Aliyah Richling), the eldest daughter of Major-General Stanley (Taylor Bergen). His matrimonial ambitions are thwarted when the pirates arrive and attempt to forcibly marry Mabel's sisters Edith, Kate, and Isabel and the other wards of the Major-General. Dancing and singing ensue, and, with no help at all from the police sergeant (Axel Snow) and his less-than-lion-hearted police, things get more and more chaotic 'til a startling revelation turns everything upside down.

Allie Canoy, Eden Ehm, Steven Holkesvik, Brian Nowasatka, Rachel Rattenborg, and Gabriela Deifelt Streese portray the ever-enthusiastic band of pirates, commanded in part by their lieutenant, Gable Lonning. Their would-be brides (Mabel's sisters) are played by Carolina Deifelt Streese (Edith), Gara Lonning (Kate), Sarah Rattenborg (Isabel), Ashley Fosaaen, Kendra Fosaaen, Emily Gomersall, Emily Kurash, Alison Schwartzhoff, Makenzie Wieseler, and Amanda Zweibohmer. Axel Snow is joined by his well-meaning patrol, consisting of Nate Fosaaen, Clare Gullekson, Gavin Markee, Anna Swanson, and Will Yahr.
