“Helen’s Room” will be dedicated at the New Minowa Players Christmas Party on Monday, December 14^th, which begins with a potluck at 6:30. The dedication will be held in the NMP Theatre at approximately 7:30. We hope you will save the date and attend one or both events.

At the November 9^th NMP Board of Directors meeting, a unanimous decision was made to name the current NMP Meeting Room/Lobby the Helen Grant Schmidt Meeting Room/Lobby. This was done to honor Helen for her 35 years of contributions to the organization.

Helen is one of three NMP “Founding Mothers” who have remained active since the 1975 birth of NMP; the others are Bette Greedy and Donalee Burns. Helen has worked diligently to help shape our organization. She has appeared on stage, served on the Board of Directors, headed fund raising events, written skits, directed plays, and injected her insight and wisdom into our decision-making processes. Earlier this year, when Helen was commended on her unwavering support of New Minowa Players, she responded that she has “always tried to be the conscience of the group.” We could not have asked her to play a better role than that!

The Board also decided it was time to replace the furniture that’s been in “Helen’s Room” about as long as she has. In Helen’s honor, New Minowa Players has purchased two sofas, a love seat, one side chair, two end tables, a coffee table, and two table lamps, to be delivered December 10th. We are asking each friend to consider making a donation of any amount to accomplish this goal. Donor names will appear in the 2010 season programs; if you wish to remain anonymous, please indicate that on the memo line of your check. Checks may be made payable to NMP - “Helen’s Room” and mailed to NMP at PO Box 321 , Decorah , IA 52101 . Thanks to an initial contribution of $500, our fund raising efforts are already underway.
